Eight days until Tiny Alligator, Large Band “And All of Your Animal Tendencies” hits at the Music Gallery in Toronto, on Thursday, April 15th at 8 pm.

I’m really excited, and totally exhausted. 19 Alligators! They’re so much work… always demanding more notes to play, a well-lit stage to play on and a rapturous audience to play for… it’s enough to drive a composer mad.

So for this show, I’ve decided to let them have their way. I won’t ruin their spine-tingling performance of each song by talking after it like I normally do. I’ll just wave my arms to let them know when to start and stop. I’ve even written them pretty little segues between each song, to avoid any sudden, anti-social key changes.

But! That means that all of the clever, witty things I have to say about my songs will go unsaid. Thank heavens for the internet. I can tell you now, and, if you promise not to tell the Alligators, we can pretend to them after the show like you TOTALLY got what they were trying to say, it was like they were SPEAKING DIRECTLY TO YOU, like, they totally expressed what you were feeling in, like, your heart.

So here are the secrets. There are eight (8) songs in the show. Each of them describes one of our Animal Tendencies, those actions and utterances that you usually chalk up to people being weird, but more than likely have everything to do with the deeply lizard part of our brains, and nothing to do with cogent thought.

Every day from now until show time, I’ll post a bit about one of Your Animal Tendencies. Stay tuned to this blog!
